Session Description
In this session, participants will be introduced to River Revery, (McDonald & Kemp, 2018) Augmented Reality (AR), Multimedia, Participatory collaboration, exploring how community participation in arts collaborations can enhance the value and sustainability of arts as OERs, and how these can be used for education. River Revery exclusively leveraged mobile creative technology tools, operating as an example of accessible multimedia arts creation. Integration of arts in education has significant effect on student success (Bautista, Liang See, Letchmi Devi, & Xenia, 2016) and connecting artists with communities and learners is a powerful way to enrich learning. A brief screening from the short films of the collaboration and the AR Art will be shared.
River Revery is an open, community-based, collaborative project of two London, Ontario based writers, artists/educators, receiving support from the London Arts Council, Libro Credit Union, and Wordsfest. River Revery addresses the artists’ concerns with habitat surrounding the Thames/Deshkan Ziibi River. In addressing local environmental concerns in an artistic and poetic way, and through inviting community participation, they aim to engage with global, universal concerns for the environment.
The first of River Revery AR art and films were presented openly as part of Wordsfest, London, November, 2018, are posted on RiverRevery.ca and Youtube. From May into Fall, 2019, the entirety of River Revery will be exhibited through workshops, readings/screenings and events in partnership with local organizations such as the local school boards, Museum London, Upper Thames River Conservation Authority, Thames Talbot Land Trust, and London Arts Council.
