DESCRIPTION:Room: G009\nTrack: Back to basics\nSession Description\nThe ubiquity of the VLE in higher education provokes much debate among educators\, especially those who favour open practice. We search for workarounds to prompt open learning\, and H5P has the potential to meet those demands. H5P is a is an interactive content authoring tool that is open and collaborative\, and it can be installed as an LTI integration on a corporate VLE. Its usability lowers the technical skills barrier for authors\, as it is much simpler to use than corporate interactive authoring tools.\n\nOne of the limitations of the VLE is access. Courses and the content within are locked away\, and users only ever have access to limited amounts of content. In H5P\, all users can create rich\, interactive HTML5 content\, that is open. Users can add collaborators and download content from other authors. This functionality fosters collaboration and provides users with a library of reusable\, open content. Content created in H5P can also be reused anywhere on the web\, not only in the VLE where it was created. Such use can help to build a repository of shared resources for staff and students and promote open practice on campus. Agency is promoted as users are in full control of their content.\n\nThe use of an open tool like H5P within a VLE might seem redundant\, however\, using H5P within the VLE can help to introduce tentative adopters of open to try open practices\, especially those that have never considered sharing learning materials outside of their courses.\nSession content\nThis session will include a short demonstration and talk\nReferences\nH5p.org.
