SUMMARY;LANGUAGE=en-gb:Cape Town Declaration: Envisioning the Next Decade of Open Education [O-152]
DESCRIPTION:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cD8ytG1_n0 \nRoom: Lecture Theatre\nTrack: Back to basics\nSession Description\nPublished in 2008\, the Cape Town Open Education Declaration defined a shared vision of an open education movement\, focused on participation of educators and learners\, policies and resources. Ten years later\, community members collaborated to produce Cape Town Open Education Declaration 10th Anniversary: Ten directions to move Open Education Forward[1]\, which outlined a set of themes for how the open education movement could evolve over the next decade. Throughout 2018\, authors organized discussions at various open education conferences around the Ten Themes. It became clear that the framework should not be seen only as a static document\, but instead as a foundation for ongoing critical discussions over the future of open education.\n\nThis workshop will to go "back to basics" by making space for a critical look at the Cape Town Declaration and Ten Themes to explore how they apply in the evolving open education movement\, building on the session at OER18. Participants will spend the majority of the workshop in discussion\, first breaking out to discuss opportunities for collaboration around the Ten Themes\, then breaking out to discuss what themes are missing. The workshop will conclude with a discussion of how to build a more inclusive ongoing conversation around the Cape Town Declaration.\nSession content\nThis 60 minute session will be structured flexibly. It will begin with a short overview of the project\, themes\, and goals for the conversation. Then there will be two rounds of small group discussions. The first round will assign each group one of the ten themes to discuss potential areas of collaboration. The second round will discuss what is missing from the list of ten themes\, and where to go next. Groups will report back\, then we will close with a discussion of next steps.\nReferences\nCape Town Open Education Declaration 10th Anniversary: Ten directions to move Open Education Forward.
